Promise of Prevention Program
Prevention is the most cost effective way to address homelessness, costing a fraction of rehoming services. The housing instability cycle can devastate families and alter the course of children's lives. Youth are 20% less likely to graduate high school than peers and rely more heavily on public services. One in seven American households are living below the poverty line and a missed paycheck or unexpected expense can fuel a crisis that robs a family of housing. In our community, a minimum wage worker ($7.25/hour) must work an average of 79 hours per week (assuming housing cost's 30% of income) to afford a $700 per month rental. The numbers just don't add up.
The Promise of Prevention Program (POPP) aids families in imminent risk of losing housing through:
Crisis resolution and case management
Client choice, respect, and empowerment
Maximizing community resources and volunteers
Providing the minimum assistance necessary for the shortest time possible
